I loved it immediately and played it over and over that night, just mesmerized. I played the record and was just blown away - from the first crash of glass on the record to the its last cowbell. I was living in Ohio at the time and bought the 12-inch version in early 1985 because I had the band's first album (which wasn't great) but read that it was a big hit in England.
One instance I can think of was the Murder Mix of 'You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)' by Dead or Alive. Occasionally, though, the12-inch remix was the better version of the song.
With the growing popularity of the 12-inch remix of popular songs, record companies often released inferior, usually pointlessly lengthened versions of hit songs.
